    Eerie Shelter

The storm outside is cold and wet and hostile, biting you to the bone even through layers of fabric. It feels like it should be cold enough to be snowing but instead, it's a sleet-rain that comes down in a sheet, freezing and needle-like. It's with some fortune that you find a cave to duck out of the miserable weather and start a small fire to nestle down try to keep warm and dry.

The cave is much bigger than you expected from the outside. After the first initial opening passage, it winds downward to open up into a wide amphitheater of a room. Stalagmites and stalactites stand like too many rows of teeth in some dark and foreboding monster's mouth, dripping with water into calm, shallow pools. Stone teeth in a mouth salivating with hunger.

There's some odd light here that keeps the cave from being perfectly dark, blue-green and dim, so your fire still comes as a comfort in lighting up the walls. The storm is persistent outside, wind howling at the mouth of the cave, far enough away that you mercifully don't feel it and neither seems to your fire.

But as thankful as you are for the shelter, your fire casts dancing shadows that seem to skitter further past the glow of the flame's reach. The light reflects on the pools to cast constant movement in the corner of your vision. Worst of all, though the wind stays outside, the cave's yawning passages moan deep and mournful, a noise which chills you almost as much as the storm outside.

Perhaps the weather isn't the only thing you should be concerned with.
